who we are

The ChildSafe Project

Good Clients. Good Business

Created and managed by Friends International since 2004, the ChildSafe project is developing a child protection network aimed at safeguarding children in Cambodia and other countries in the region from all forms of abuse, especially sexual abuse. The ChildSafe project builds a network of key people - "facilitators" - consisting of taxi-drivers (motodups and tuk-tuks), guesthouses, hotels, restaurants, Internet cafés, communities, tourists and non-locals to protect children.

what we do

The ChildSafe campaign provides clear messages and promotes behaviors that offer an opportunity to improve income while protecting children. The "Good Clients, Good Business" campaign delivers specific information and on-going training to the "facilitators" to develop their child protection skills.

Carefully selected, trained and monitored, these ChildSafe partners are able to protect and support children at risk, and eventually become community social workers. All partners are promoted on our websites and other media. To date, around 500 facilitators have been trained in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville (with implementation in Sihanoukville by M'lop Tapang, an NGO partner).

The ChildSafe project is also working with the countries of origin of sexual offenders, in Asia and in the West, building awareness for ChildSafe tourism by promoting ChildSafe businesses and providing ChildSafe tips.

Be a ChildSafe tourist! Travel with your eyes wide open and report any suspicious or obvious behavior.
